Plumbing Installation in Garfield, NJ.

Plumbing installation covers the planned work behind a remodel: new fixtures, moved drains, added bathrooms and supply lines. In Garfield, that often means working inside older walls and cellars, so the planning matters.

If something is leaking or backing up now, the emergency line is open 24/7. Planned installation is scheduled for daytime hours.

Plumbing installation in Garfield, from rough in to finish.

Installation happens in two stages. Rough in is the work behind the walls and under the floor: supply lines, drains and vents. Finish is the visible part: toilets, sinks, faucets, tubs and showers. A remodel goes best when both stages are planned before demolition.

Garfield houses run from narrow two story homes to three family buildings, and floor plans are often tight. Moving a drain even a few feet can mean cutting a joist or running a new vent, which is why a site visit pays for itself.

Basement bathrooms and the Saddle River.

Low cellars in parts of Garfield sit close to river grade. The National Weather Service gauge at Lodi on the Saddle River recorded crests of 13.94 feet in 1999 and 13.5 feet in 2011 against a flood stage of 6 feet. If you plan a basement bathroom, ask about backwater valves and ejector pumps, because a toilet below street sewer level cannot drain by gravity.

A backwater valve closes if the sewer backs up and keeps it out of the house. It needs access for cleaning and a permit. We can advise whether your lot and cellar justify one. For sump related questions, see sump pump service.

Fixtures and water quality.

Hardness in the City of Garfield supply is above the recommended range, according to the city's 2018 water quality report. Scale marks glass shower doors, clogs aerators and shortens the life of fill valves. Choose fixtures with finishes that handle mineral buildup, and plan for easy access to shutoffs.

If you are replacing old fixtures, replace the shutoff valves too. A new faucet on a seized old valve is the start of a future leak. We can combine a faucet swap or toilet installation with valve replacement in one visit.
